After a slow start Heritage PE teachers are working together to teach what they are supposed to teach. The nice weather has allowed for good outside play and instruction.

Compliments to all.

Items discussed: training sessions for biking, skating, and archery; activities that must be taught in the different classes; use and care of equipment in light of funding shortages; hot topic of overcrowding of all PE classes in fifth block in which four teachers have 40 students in each class for a total of 160 kids in the gym at this time; dealing with the extreme number of skippers during this block. Department members present were: Kreg Abbey, Reggie Garrett, Jackie Bateman, Aaron McLaurin, Chuck Koval, Christopher Morgan. Department members absent were Ray Pollard, Dwayne Peters, and Caron Lowe. This meeting was called to let Duke Conrad who  is Health/PE supervisor for the city meet with our department as part of his desire to meet with all departments throughout the city to improve quality of instruction.

Approximately 160 students along with 4 teachers share the gym during 5th block. This makes proper instruction very difficult. Students come and go from lunch along with students skipping other classes during this block. It is very difficult for the PE teachers to give appropriate instruction because of interruptions caused by non PE students entering the gym area.

A department meeting was held in which all PE Teachers used and discussed Health Star programming to report fitness scores.

The citywide Health/PE/Driver Ed. meeting was held at Warwick. Topics covered were updating or creating of school brochure for the 3 disciplines, dance curriculum topics, health topics, driver education topics, and team sport activities (tchoukball and speedball)

After a meeting of the minds the lock distibution procedure was established. It feels great to have Chris Morgan and Dwayne Peters on our staff. They are two highly motivated and very helpful teachers.
